The evaluation the snowiness winters on the example of the control area (South Sakhalin).

Abstract

The evaluation of the snowiness based on observations through the period of 15 years at the snow measuring site near Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk city, where snow cover research was conducted was based on observation at the snow measuring site near Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk city (the south part of the Sakhalin Island) according to three snowiness characteristics: water equivalent of a snow cover during maximum snow storage (amount of snowfall), duration of stability snow cover and average height of the snowpack. The achieved results let us distinguish 15 observed winter seasons as high snowy, medium snowy and low snowy, so as to determine original characteristics of snow cover, that most accurately represent the snowiness of the region.
