An extensive amount of information about the hydrological regime of the Khanka Lake, especially about its current stage, has been collected. The hypothetic cause of the current (2013–2016) increase in the water level in the lake was a combination of natural and anthropogenic factors. Recent data indicate that changes may be expected in the dynamics of the lake’s water balance. The shallowing of the lake in the next year or two can not be expected. The volume of water in the lake reached in recent years gives a reserve of its expenditure for the next years. In order to avoid critical situations related to extreme rise and fall of the water level in the lake, on the territory of the Khanka lowlands it is necessary urgently begin to create a network of hydraulic structures capable of damping negative scenarios of the water regime of the territory.
