Comprehensive fundamental and applied research targeting Peter the Great Bay, the Japan Sea, implemented in the last decade, has resulted in substantial new findings which have been discussed in 2012 and 2013 at the First and Second Conferences on the Oceanography of Peter the Great Bay. To summarize the achievements and foster cooperation among the research institutions involved, The Third Conference to be held on April 26–28, 2017, should identify major achievements and key problems and make the data and information exchange more operational and regular. The themes of the Third Conference include physical oceanography and climate, hydrochemistry and marine biology, geology, geophysics and ecology of the Bay and adjacent area of the Japan Sea, as well as modern marine and information technologies. The conference is supported by the “Far-East” Program of Priority Research of the Far-Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, Grant No. 15-I-1-047.
