Abstract

Coatings in different alkaline solutions containing as well compounds of calcium and phosphorus were developed on the Mg–Mn–Ce (MA8) magnesium alloy by hydrothermal synthesis. The obtained coatings consist mainly of magnesium oxide and hydroxide. The phase and elemental composition, morphology and corrosive properties of the coatings were investigated. The data obtained indicate an improvement in the anticorrosion properties of the coatings under formation. It was shown that hydrothermal treatment of a magnesium alloy reduces the corrosion current and increases the impedance modulus and polarization resistance by more than ten times as compared with the bare MA8 alloy
